Florida House Supports More Parental Involvement in Schools
Thursday, February 16, 2012
Tallahassee, Florida – Today, the Florida House Education Committee passed HB 1191 and voted to protect Florida students and empower Florida parents. With this bill, students in traditional and charter schools will be guaranteed, at a minimum, an effective teacher every other year and parents will receive the information and tools they need to be actively involved in their child’s education.
“I thank members of the House Rules & Regulation Subcommittee for advancing this important legislation,” said Patricia Levesque, Executive Director of the Foundation for Florida’s Future. “This bill gives parents – those most passionate about their child’s success – the tools to enact real change. By empowering parents to demand the high quality education their students deserve, the Parent Empowerment Act will become a crucial step towards building a world-class education system."
Education in Florida has dramatically improved during the past decade, but our work is far from finished. The Foundation looks forward to continuing our work with members of the Florida Legislature to improve education and student achievement in the Sunshine State.
